Water/Sewer Department Manager Job
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Water/Sewer Department Manager, performs field clerical work accurately reading water meters and recording water consumption on established meter reading devices for proper billing.
The Meter Reader follows designated routes and receives instructions from the manager.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age.
Valid driver's license.
Be able to pass a background check.
Ability to safely operate City vehicles and equipment.
Ability to walk for long periods of time.
Ability to work in all elements of weather.
Willingness to listen, learn, and follow directions.
Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with the public.
Cell phones not allowed while operating City vehicles and any other city equipment.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Assume additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the Water/Sewer Department Manager.
Reads water meters on an assigned route and records readings with a high degree of accuracy, makes special readings as required, checks to see if meters are functioning properly, and reports defective meters to Water/Sewer Department Manager.
Clears mud, debris, and other matter from the meter boxes, checks to determine consistency of meter readings, reports unusual circumstances to his/her manager.

Ability to write legibly.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and coworkers.
Ability to operate City vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and maintain composure in difficult and/or stressful situations.
Essential Physical Skills Balancing:
Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, or slippery surfaces.
Climbing:
Ascends or descends stairs, scaffolding, or ramps.
Crawling:
Ability to frequently bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Handling:
Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
Hearing:
Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
Kneeling:
Ability to frequently bend at the knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
Lifting:
Ability to frequently lift and move objects.
Mental Acuity:
Ability to make rational decisions.
Pulling/Pushing:
Ability to occasionally move objects up to 50 pounds.
Reaching:
Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Repetitive Motion:
Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.

Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Ability to frequently bend body downward and forward by bending spine to the waist.

Work Environment Work is performed primarily in an out-of-doors environment with exposure to the wind, rain, cold, and heat.
Work is performed in most cases on uneven ground, where errors can lead to physical injury, and may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
May encounter hostile pets, locked gates, inaccessible meters.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
